Have You Been Programmed?

I am very fortunate. I grew up with a loving and stable family to include a mother and father, three siblings, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

As I got older, I met and married my wonderful husband of 16 years. Through him, we had a ready-made family with two great children. We were both successful in our careers, eventually building our dream-home, and moving to a small town. Rather than commute, I took a good position in town, while my husband started his own business. Life was good, and to me, going to work for someone else was normal. It was stable. Hey, that's what you are supposed to do, right? I got a paycheck every week.

However, in 2007, life threw us a curve ball. Suddenly and unexpectedly, I lost my job. What was I going to do? This is a very small town, and there aren't many places to earn a decent living! Over the next eight months, I struggled daily with job hunting and interviews to no avail. There didn't seem to be anything out there! I was always overqualified. For the first time in my life, I started to panic. I never had to struggle to find a job before; and my self-esteem was definitely suffering, as was my bank account. Why was this happening? I don't understand!

Then, as my world felt like it was collapsing around me, I stopped! I had to take a step back, take a deep breath and examine this situation. Suddenly, as if the clouds had parted, I started to see the light. I began to realize that life happens for a reason. Who says that working for someone else was the only way to make a good living? I needed to be able to open my mind to other possibilities.

That was it! That was my problem. I had been so focused on what was considered "normal," that I couldn't see the path that had literally been laid down right before my eyes. I had been so accustomed to the daily expectation of working for someone else, that I felt absolutely lost without it. I had been programmed to think this way all of my life!

You see, I believe in fate, and I now believe that fate was preparing me for a major change. If that previous cycle had continued, I never would have stopped and opened my mind to other business opportunities! And brother, let me tell you - there are other possibilities out there! You just need to open your eyes!

So what am I doing now? I can tell you that I've never been happier! I am working from home and earning a good living. I have found that I am no longer bound to an hourly wage set by my employers. I now work for myself and my income potential is limitless! I found a product that I really believe in (not to mention a great compensation plan), and even though I am disciplined enough to stick to a regular schedule of Monday through Friday, I can take the day or two off when I want to (usually when the weather is pretty). And the best thing is that at this pace, my husband will be able to sell his business and enjoy life with me!

Would you like to know how can you do this too? Would you like to take back your life and make your own schedule? Would you enjoy helping others make a difference in their lives health wise and/or financially? Then you'll want to check this out!

Now, I'll be honest, it took a few months to get this working for me, but if you're interested, you could start part-time, then kiss your 9-5 job goodbye whenever YOU are ready!

Don't Let Your Immune System Get You Down...

...It's too hard to get back up!

In my quest to learn more about health and nutrition, I hit the Internet to do some research. Have you ever tried to do research on the Internet about your immune system? Honestly! All of the explanations that I sought seemed to be written by doctors, or even worse, scientists. I couldn't understand a word! They kept talking about Myeloid Cells, Lymphocytes, T-Cells, B-Cells and more. You get the picture.

Trying to understand your immune system is an enormous task and extremely involved! Why can't someone tell us what we need to know in plain English?

I laugh when I say that only because I simply don't understand all of the technical terminology used these days. Knowing a little about the immune system makes everything a bit more understandable. So in this article, I will attempt to take a look at how your immune system works so that you can understand what it is doing for you each day, as well as what it is not.

In a nutshell, your immune system protects your body from infections or foreign bodies (such as bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, etc). It has two basic ways to do this:

1). It creates a barrier that prevents bacteria and viruses from entering your body.

2). If a bacteria or virus does get in to your body, the immune system will detect and eliminate the foreign material before it attacks your healthy cells and tries to reproduce.

Ever notice a mosquito bite on your skin? It not only itches, but you get a red bump and swelling for a few days. Notice how a scratch heals itself? That, my friend, is your immune system at work. Most of the time, we do not even give it a second thought.

Your immune system is all around your body. It is the strength of our immune system that makes the difference as to whether we get sick or not. I believe that your immune system is one of the most single important factors in your body. It is almost like an internal army - always ready to fight!

Now, if your immune system is weakened, you may feel the definite results from a virus or bacteria, or you may become run-down and tired. Age can make our immune system weaker. Stress is also a factor that damages your immune system, as well as poor nutrition. And, last but not least, environmental irritants and airborne pollutants. Add all of these things up, and you just may get sick.

What can you do to keep your immune system functioning healthy? Here are a few tips that I use, and hopefully will help you too:

  • Take a Chill-Pill and Relax: You can not let stress run your life. If you feel the pressure getting to you, do something like this:

-- Remove yourself from the situation. Take a walk.
-- Call a friend to ventilate. Just don't keep it bottled up inside of you.
-- Change your focus, or perhaps read the funny pages (might make you laugh).
-- If you are walking into a stressful situation, try wearing an outfit that makes you feel more confident.

  • Good Nutrition: this one is a tough one in today's society.

-- Eat well balanced meals to include fruit and vegetables;
-- Avoid a lot of red meat and fast food.
-- Use Olive Oil when cooking and cut down on those fried foods!
-- You may also take a nutritional supplement with plenty of antioxidants to help booster your immune system (click here to read a recent clinical study on antioxidants).
-- Drink a lot of water and fewer sodas.

  • Airborne Pollutants: such as smog, smoke, dust, seasonal transitions and environmental changes.

-- Clean your air filters in your house, work place, car or any other area that you may be in to 'clean' your air that you breathe.
-- Keep your environment dust free and vacuum often!

  • Sleep! Your body actually repairs itself while you sleep. This is why it is so important that you get 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night! If you wake up exhausted each day, you are simply not allowing your body to heal itself (stress is a big part of this).

-- Don't eat or drink anything within 1 hour of bedtime.
-- Go to bed at the same time every night (including weekends).
-- Noise - some people sleep better with a fan on, or some type of soothing sound.
-- Go through a mental process when you lay down to 'relax.' I count to 100 as I breathe (sheep just isn't my thing), but it takes my mind off of everything else, and I usually fall right to sleep.

But remember this. Your immune system may be the single most important friend that you have. Take care of this friend, and it will take care of you! A strong and smooth-running immune system is your most powerful frontline defense against viruses, bacteria and a host of harmful threats to your health.

I Am Not A Test Tube!

I am of the generation that swore they would never get old. I do not run to the doctor every time I sneeze, nor do I take any maintenance medications. I try to eat healthy, exercise and simply enjoy life. I also take supplements to get my recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals. However, during my journey to stay healthy, I started hearing one word over and over again. "Antioxidants." What are they, anyway?

It seems that everyone is jumping on the band wagon when it comes to promoting their product which contains antioxidants. I have seen commercials promoting anything from chocolate to dog food; and I have heard sales pitches from nutrition companies. Honestly, I never gave much thought to what antioxidants were. I mean, who cares?

But now I want to understand what people are saying, so I did a little research. To explain antioxidants, I will start off with explaining something that we are already familiar with. Oxidation. What happens to a shovel when you leave it outside in the rain? It rusts. What happens to an apple when you slice it and leave it on the counter? It starts turning brown. You get the idea - that is what oxidation does.

Well, it is the same for your body. As cells function normally in the body, they produce damaged molecules - called free radicals (oxidation). These free radicals are the bad guys (boo, hiss!). These thugs steal from the good cells (such as fat, protein, or DNA), thereby damaging the good cells. This damage continues in a chain reaction, and soon, your good cells will die. We need these good cells to stay healthy and alive!

Antioxidants help prevent widespread good cell destruction by donating components to stabilize free radicals (so they will stop stealing from the good cells). More importantly, antioxidants reinforce the good cells', making them healthier, which allows them to perform their duties of keeping you healthy. When there are not enough antioxidants in your body, free radicals begin damaging healthy cells which, in turn, can lead to problems. For example, free radical damage to immune cells can lead to an increased risk of infections. So antioxidants really are a good thing.

But how do you know which antioxidants will actually help you? Would you like to know how many products prove their claims? They check it in a TEST TUBE. Laboratories test levels using a method called ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). Anybody can have their product tested if they simply pay for it.

But, this test can not determine if an antioxidant will actually work in your body, and that is a far more important thing to know. Sadly, many high-ORAC fruit antioxidants are poorly absorbed from the digestive tract, or not at all. What good are antioxidants if they simply pass through your system?

What your body really needs are antioxidants that circulate in the blood to protect every cell against harmful free radicals, but our production of these essential antioxidants diminishes with age, or if we are under stress. You have probably already experienced how you feel when you become stressed.

So how do you know which products offer the best antioxidants that will actually absorb into your system and benefit you? Go natural. Eat all natural products such as nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables. If you choose a supplement, make sure it is all natural and preservative free. I personally recommend Himalayan GoChi Juice. I know that they have done their Antioxidant tests on humans with excellent results (click here to see the Study).

And, this is just my opinion, but when I hear "as shown on the ORAC scale," I am turning around and running in the opposite direction! After all, I am a human being, not a test tube!
